Who is Hosea? ホセアとはどんな人か

Hosea 1:1(KJV)

The word of the Lord that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

 ホセア書が書かれたのが、紀元前９，８世紀

ホセアはBeeriの息子で預言者として約６０年間働いた。

イスラエルの王Jeroboam IIの統治下で活動していた。当時のイスラエルは、暴力や不道徳がはびこる、神の祝福から疎外された都市だった。しかし、物質的には豊かであった。これについての記述は列王第２　１４章２３，２４節を参照するとわかる。

2 Kings 14:23-2４ (KJV)

 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.

²⁴ And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

神に反逆的な人々に、神からのメッセージを伝達することは、簡単なことではない。人気のない考え方を、人に伝えるというのが、聖書の中に出てくる多くの預言者の仕事だった。当然人々からは尊敬されず、むしろ疎まれる。

ホセアの妻というのが、この書の大きな要点となる。

Hosea 1:2 (KJV)

The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord.

whoredomという言葉の意味については、売春婦や性的不道徳な人間を意味する。

a wife of whoredomsというところを、別の聖書翻訳では、「a wife of fornication」

The Hebrew verb za·nahʹ

The Greek word translated “fornication” is por·neiʹa.

これについて

B. F. Westcott in his book Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Ephesians (1906, p. 76)

“This is a general term for all unlawful intercourse, (I) adultery: Hos. ii. 2, 4 (LXX.); Matt. v. 32; xix. 9; (2) unlawful marriage, I Cor. v. I; (3) fornication, the common sense as here [Eph 5:3].”

ホセアの妻は、別の男性と性関係を持つのだけれど、ホセアはその妻を許さなければならなかった。

イスラエルに対する神の気持ちが、ホセアの妻に対して持つ気持ちで、表される。

このことは、別の日記で具体的に書きたい。

神が、イスラエルの反逆を、神に対する愛の欠如として、非常に悲しく思っていること、でも、反省して、神のもとに帰ってきたら、許してあげたいという、神の慈愛（許したいという気持ち）が、ホセア書の要点となっている。
